How to build a simple website in under 30 minutes
One of the most common questions we get from a new small business is ....websites are so expensive, how do we get ourselves online? Well, there's a huge variety of website builders online that are so simple to use that it's almost childs play. In this video, we walk through a step by step process of creating a simple online presence for a small business.....IN UNDER 30 Minutes. It is important to note that this is for a very simple online presence and a good place to start and get comfortable creating online content.
This is just an example of one of the many easy ways to get a simple, starter website presence. In our student area, we also have a variety of tutorials and walkthroughs for creating more-complex websites using content management systems like Joomla or Wordpress. These platforms allow you to create all sorts of more complex functions and add ons if your business requires it.
A few important tips
1) Before you start, make sure you have all your content already written in a simple word document so you can just copy and paste. Think about your menu/navigation, page headings and how it will flow. A good place to start is by looking at similar businesses to yours online and how they have structured their sites.
2) Do your formatting in the website builder itself and not in word, ie: you want to just copy the simple text and do the nice formatting, bold headings, bullets etc.... in the website itself. Formatting carried across from Microsoft Word to HTML (website code) can often make your layout look poor.
3) Get your photos all ready for uploading as well beforehand. Decide what photos you will put on what pages and size them to around 1000px wide. The free stock photo websites we used for this video are www.pexels.com and www.pixabay.com - both provide a great collection of free stock photos in good quality that anyone can use.
