Who can help our planet more, Greta Thunberg or a Fashion Designer or a mining engineer? The answer is probably not what you think and in this short video, we outline why we believe that the future of conservation and making a positive impact on our planet is in the places we typically don't expect.
Even though humanity is responsible for the environmental destruction we see today, humans remain part of the ecosystem, we are also the solution.
The fashion industry has 3x more carbon emissions than the airline industry, this is a space ripe for innovation. The creatives, filmmakers and communicators are in a far better position to communicate science in a way people understand than a research biologist. People in ecotourism can reach, educate and impact thousands of people a year, whereas a wildlife vet can assist only individual animals. It's all about thinking differently about where you can have an impact and where you can make a difference. Ultimately, we believe the world needs a lot more environmentally conscious economists, engineers, bankers, artists than we need ecologists. (Not that ecologists are not important ..... but for change to happen, we need to see things differently) - this is all of course debatable and we love a good debate, but ultimately, I think we can all agree, current approaches to conservation are not working very well and a change in perceptions on "how" we make the planet more sustainable is vitally important.
In the end we will conserve only what we love; we will love only what we understand; and we will understand only what we are taught. (Baba Dioum, 1968.)
